Education in Uganda

Education in Uganda is different than in the United States because, where as there is a system in place to raise funds through taxes in the U.S., this is not how it works in Uganda. While education is supposed to be free for elementary ages it is not. Parents are responsible for a variety of things including uniforms (which are required), textbooks, supplies, all costs regarding transportation, amongst other fees like exams. Preschool (baby class) here is not something that is offered cheap and can cost roughly $200 a year for public education. Private education obviously costs more and so many farmers and Ugandan’s in poorer areas are unable to send their children to school and can remain uneducated.

If you have a child who is Deaf or has other special needs the cost can be a lot higher and the services to teach them are far more sparse which is why we opened up some of our orphanage to now have a Deaf school. Will you join with is in raising up the next generation of Ugandans for a brighter future?
